এরপর পরপর তিনি ‘গুলাম’ এবং ‘কুছ কুছ হোতা হে(১৯৯৮)’ চলচ্চিত্রে ব্যপক সাফল্য অর্জন করেন। ‘কুছ কুছ হোতা হে’ চলচ্চিত্রে শ্রেষ্ঠ পার্শ্ব চরিত্রে অভিনয়ের জন্য তিনি জীবনে প্রথমবার ‘ফিল্মফেয়ার’ পুরস্কার লাভ করেন।
